Our Congregations' Profiles
Just as God has given everyone a unique personality,
so it is that congregations have unique personalities,
too. These brief congregational sketches are based on
conversations with randomly selected members of each
of Western Anglican's congregations, representing
newcomers, youth, and long-time parishioners. We
think you'll find them useful and informative. We'll
be posting one of these approximately weekly from now
on.
Enjoy!

we are a Church Community dedicated to witnessing to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior throughout our neighborhood, region and the world. We believe that authentic Christianity is rooted in the timeless Word of God, practice of holiness, prayer, the power of the Sacraments and fellowship with God and one another through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Come and journey with us as we seek to love and serve the Lord through worship, service and study, so that you too may grow in the grace and peace of God. We invite you to join us and share with us in the Lord’s Supper (Holy Eucharist) so that your heart may be warmed, your spirit renewed and your life refreshed as we share the abundant life Jesus promised.

Resurrection features a range of worship styles, from the casual, contemporary to the solemn said Eucharist with a blend of traditional and contemporary music. About 140 people attend services at Resurrection on any given Sunday. Building a sense of community is a high priority, and the worship, fellowship, youth ministry, and home groups are all geared towards nurturing a warm community network in which Christians care for one another. This relational focus is also evident through Resurrection’s healing ministry carried out with the Order of St. Luke.
Outreach ministry is also a vital part of Resurrection’s identity; the church sponsors a mission in Ariquipa, Peru, supports Casa de los Pobres in their ministry with the poorest of the poor in Tijuana, Mexico, and feeds homeless veterans on the third Saturday of each month in conjunction with Interfaith Community Services. Resurrection’s mission statement is, “to proclaim Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life, and to live in the power of His resurrection.”

Good Shepherd is a growing community, with 70-80 members ranging from preschoolers to nonagenarians. The church has two Sunday services: a Rite I said Eucharist at 8 am, and a blended evangelical-catholic Rite II Eucharistic service at 10 am that incorporates musical styles from chant to contemporary.
Pastoral care is everyone’s ministry at Good Shepherd. People look out and care one for another, reaching out to newcomers and inviting new families over for dinner or for an outing. Bible study, fellowship, music, and anything to do with kids are also integral to the church. A new small groups initiative is now underway.
The church's stated mission is: “To glorify God, proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, reflect His light in our lives, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, redeem a hurting world.” Their primary calling for evangelization is young families, whom they reach through a dedicated Children's Ministry and needs-based ministries, which will include a variety of arts and after-school programs. They engage and embrace the culture in order to transform the culture.
Good Shepherd utilizes its website as an important way to share the message; all sermons are available through the internet, and there are hits from around the country and as far away as Brazil, Europe, and Africa. The church supports missions in Africa and South America, holds bridging events to create opportunities for unchurched people to get to know them, offers seeker-friendly sermon series, and joins in fellowship with Congregation Shir Ami, the Jewish synagogue where their services are held.

A diverse community with members from Africa and the Caribbean as well as Hispanics, African-Americans, and Caucasians, St. David’s has a unified purpose: to “make disciples of Jesus Christ.” About 150 people attend on a given Sunday morning, including significant numbers of children, youth, and young adults. A handful of these attend the 8 am traditional spoken Rite I Eucharist, with the majority attending the contemporary family service at 10:30 am that features worship with guitars and drums as well as piano and organ. Sunday School and the youth sermon also take place during the second service. The church places itself within three streams: Catholic (in being liturgical), Evangelical (in being Bible-centered), and Charismatic (embracing the gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit).
St. David’s is known to some as the friendliest church in the Valley due to its hospitality meal each Sunday after the 10:30 service, and a sense of community that continues during the week with Bible study and small groups for adults. St. David’s also features an extensive program for youth that includes youth group on Wednesday evenings as well as Sunday mornings, and a “Kingdom Night” youth service one Friday evening a month. Mission is an integral part of the fabric of St. David’s as well; the church supports various missionaries around the world and two theological students at Uganda Christian University, as well as sending teams twice each year to build houses in Mexico and at least once each year to another part of the world.

A church plant with a big heart, our core membership and many adjunct members reach various parts of the globe. We are members of the Covenant Churches of Flagstaff —fourteen congregations covenanted to work together to reach the city for Jesus. We serve local Flagstaff congregations in various ways and officially sponsor the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter at Northern Arizona University (about 300 students strong). We have a connection to missionaries in Africa and other areas, and we reach out to the nearby Hopi and Navajo reservations. We utilize liturgy modified from the Ugandan Prayer Book. Because Flagstaff is a tourist destination, we have frequent visitors who repeatedly say, "We felt like family when we were with you."
