Our House of Delegates
The House of Delegates is comprised of approximately
equal numbers of clergy and lay delegates from our
member congregations, chosen annually. The House of
Delegates meets approximately quarterly, including an
annual meeting. Clergy delegates are ordained clergy
who have been employed for a minimum number of hours
each week by their congregation or who, though not so
employed, regularly assist as a member of the
congregation. A number of lay delegates is elected by
the vestry of each member congregation according to a
formula based on average weekly attendance. The
formula favors newer, smaller congregations.
Annually, the House of Delegates elects an Executive
Committee composed of twelve delegates, six clergy and
six lay persons, representing geographic and canonical
diversity within The Association of Western Anglican
Congregations. Major decisions affecting Western
Anglicans are made or ratified by the House of
Delegates, representing all of our member
congregations.
